In the dark of the night

Eric Brewster is looking forward to a summer spent in the lakeside mansion of Dr. Hector Darby, a researcher into the minds of serial killers who mysteriously vanished years earlier, but the season turns deadly when Eric and his friends become obsessed with a cache of strange, broken items--including bladeless hacksaws, a headless axe handle, and shadeless lamps--hidden in the carriage house.
