Children of a lesser god

James Leeds, a speech therapist on the faculty of a school for the deaf, meets and marries Sarah, a young woman who has been totally deaf from birth, but even though they try to understand each other's needs and feelings, the gap between the worlds of sound and silence seems to grow ever larger.
