Jack Smurch, armed with a salami and a gallon of gin, becomes the first man to fly solo and non-stop around the world, but officials find they have their work cut out for them when it becomes clear that Smurch, an arrogant, illiterate lout, is no one's idea of an American hero.

After living for forty years in a cramped farmhouse in 1890's New England, a woman reacts to the new barn her husband has built by moving the household into it while he is gone on a trip.
