facing off on the field
The sport of lacrosse is as old as North America itself, developed in the New World by the native tribes that used lacrosse for battle training, dispute settlement and religious ritual. Games between rival tribes were violent and would last for days. In modern lacrosse, the game is much shorter, but the element of violence still exists in the full contact mens version. Lacrosse is a popular womens sport as well, played in thousands of high schools and more than 100 NCAA Division I colleges. There are two professional mens leagues, one indoor and one outdoor. This book provides tips from stars at every level on preparing to face off on the field. Every book in the Preparing for Game Day series takes you through how to physically and mentally prepare for your favorite sport and provides a rundown of the steps you should take when it is time to compete. Each title in this series includes color photos throughout, and back matter including: an index and further reading lists for books and internet resources. Kimi Takahashi, a girl who lives up the street, invites Addie to go to the park and play lacrosse. Addie hasn't the first clue what lacrosse is and would rather sit on Grandma's front porch eating potato chips, drinking sodas, and reading books. But then again, spending the summer dealing with her younger brother isn't that appealing either. So she reluctantly goes to the park with Kimi. Within a week, she's hooked on lacrosse. Although she's overweight and can't keep up with the faster, stronger girls, she loves the game.
