Wolf biologist Helen Ross is sent to the ranching town of Hope, Montana to protect a pack of wolves that has made a sudden return to the place where they were slaughtered a century earlier, but her mission is complicated by a group of ranchers who want only to destroy the animals and by her love affair with the son of her most powerful opponent.
