The water mirror: In a place similar to Venice, Italy, two teenaged orphans, apprenticed to a maker of magic mirrors, begin to realize that their fates are tied to the magical protector of the city known as the Flowing Queen and to the ruler of Hell, respectively. The stone light: While Merle and the Flowing Queen travel to Hell to enlist Lord Light's help in Venice's fight against the invading Egyptian army, Serafin joins a resistance group that is led by an ancient sphinx. The glass word: While Merle, Junipa, and the great flying stone lion accompany an Egyptian high priest to the fortress of the powerful sphinx, Serafin and Eft voyage deep beneath the ocean to ask the help of a sea witch in freeing Venice from the Pharoah and his mummy warriors.
