The Kirov Ballet performs a series of selections from ballets originally made famous by dancer Waslaw Nijinsky and choreographer Mikhail Fokine.

A brief history of the ballet is followed by an alphabetically arranged listing of more than 500 major ballets giving the plot, staging, choreographer, composer, date and place of the first performance, and the dancers that originally appeared in the work.

The plots of six ballets are accompanied by photographs of performances by the Royal Ballet. Included are "The Nutcracker," "Swan Lake," "La Fille Mal Gard?e," "Giselle," "Romeo and Juliet," and "The Sleeping Beauty.".
