Polly is about to start the fifth grade when she learns that she will be in the same classroom as her mad scientist stepbrother, Damon Kreep, and Polly is afraid of how Damon's strange experiments and behavior will reflect on her.

Polly's mad-scientist stepbrother, Damon, spends hours in his creepy basement laboratory preparing to enter the school science fair. Polly doesn't know what is worse, that Damon is clearly up to no good with his experiment or that he might actually win first place at the fair.
