the quest to discover the deepest cave on earth
Two great scientist-explorers attempted to find the deepest cave in existence. They explored Huautla in 1994, Cheve in 2003, and then formed the Call of the Abyss Krubera Expedition in 2004. And on October 18, 2004, they reached the bottom of the world at 6,825 feet deep. Cavers know that the excitement of going where no human has been before is tempered by the physical and mental exhaustion of constant darkness and realizing that accidents happen. There is always the possibility of becoming lost, injured, killed, and dying a slow, lingering death alone because no one can find you.
