Berun and his apprentice Lewan are captured by a group of dangerous assassins who demand their help in overthrowing their mad leader and ruler of the fortress of Sentinelspire.

While escorting an exiled wizard to a ruined citadel in the City of the Weeping Ghosts, a group of Rashemi, a magically gifted race, seek to also unlock the secrets of a magic shield, but unlocking the secrets might also mean unleashing a power that destroyed the Shandaular population two thousand years ago.
