Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

Mary Shelley found the inspiration for Frankenstein while staying on the shores of Lake Geneva with Percy Shelley, Lord Byron and other friends, when Byron suggested they hold a ghost story competition. She was just eighteen at the time. It was published in 1818 and went on to become one of the best-known Gothic horror stories of all time.
