When an old Chinese emperor must select an heir, he brings all the children together and gives them each a seed to take care of. A little boy named Peng takes the seed home and plants it, but nothing ever grows. One year later, the children return to the palace, and Peng is discouraged to see all the other children's seeds grew into beautiful plants. The emperor then explains that he gave them all seeds that would not grow, but Peng was the only one to come with an empty vase. The emperor chooses Peng to be his heir because of his qualities of honesty and courage.
