Outlander

The fifth novel in the Outlander series finds eighteenth-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his wife Claire Randall, a woman who has traveled back in time from post-World War II England, in the American colonies in 1771 and preparing for the coming revolution.

It's 1778 and France has declared war on Great Britain. The British are in Philadelphia and George Washington's troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed grave to discover that his best friend has married Claire. All is in disarray as an illegitimate son discovers who his father is, a nephew wants to marry a Quaker, and Claire and Jenny, Jamie's sister, try to pick up the pieces. Jamie and Claire can only be grateful that their daughter, Brianna, and her family, are safe in twentieth-century Scotland. Or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own kidnapped son. Her husband, Roger, has gone into the past searching for his son (who has, unbeknownst to Brianna and Roger, never left the twentieth century.) Now with Roger out of the way, the kidnapper can focus on his true target: Brianna.

After being presumed dead, Jamie Fraser returns to find that his best friend has married his wife, his illegitmate son has discovered who is father is, and his nephew has decided to marry a Quaker.

Now she is returning with her grown daughter, Brianna. Their arrival shows them the intrigue-ridden Paris court of Charles Stuart and a doomed highlands uprising.

Claire Randall has traveled back in time to 18th century Scotland. There she met and fell in love with Jamie Fraser. Bearing his child, she returned to the present to raise that child. But when the past recalled her she went. When her grown daughter, Brianna, makes a disturbing discovery that sends her to the same circle of stones that took her mother into the past, Brianna knows she must follow. As she searches for her mother and the father she has never met, Brianna knows she is risking her own future to save their lives.
