After living in Canada for five years during World War II, ten-year-old Gavin and his fifteen-year-old sister Norah are now faced with the prospect of returning home to their family, but Gavin wants to stay in Canada, the only place he has known as home.
With the end of World War II, Gavin and Norah, who had been sent to Canada for safety, must return to England after a five year absence, and Gavin is faced with the difficult choice of leaving his beloved Canadian family and his best friends.
