Fifteen-year-old Belle, burdened by the knowledge that her carelessness has crippled her father, joins a pilgrimage to Canterbury made famous by Chaucer and comes to love her fellow travelers, especially Luke and Walter, but faces a difficult decision when she learns the famous author is embroiled in dangerous politics.
