A brief history of Rochester, New York beginning with the Iroquois Indians, through the Phelps and Gorham Purchase, the early settlers, pioneers, farming. Discusses the early homes, markets, entertainment and industries developed during the "boom" Erie period. The importance of the Genesee River and Lake Ontario are developed showing their signifcance to the continuing economy of the city through the Civil War up to the 1990s.
