While training to be a ninja, jokester Naruto fails his final exam, but when a crisis occurs in the ninja village, he realizes that he has what it takes to become a ninja.

During their first assignment to protect a famous bridge builder, Naruto and two other junior ninjas face a formidable opponent in Zabuza, the evil Demon of the Mist.

As the evil Zabuza plans his attack, Naruto and his fellow junior ninjas attend an important training session where they learn about chakra, the energy needed to perform ninjutsu.

It's all-out shinobi war as Naruto, Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Shizune take on Orochimaru and Kabuto in battle, with the final fate of Tsunade hanging on the outcome.

As Jiraiya attempts to train Naruto to push beyond his limits, secrets of the past are revealed, and a mysterious shinobi who can change everything begins to take center stage.

When the dust settles from Orochimaru's attack, the shinobi find that not everyone has survived, and while the ninja mourn, an unlikely candidate is chosen for greatness, a long-lost ninja returns with a dangerous entourage and Naruto finds his life inmore turmoil.

The tension between Naruto and Gaara builds, and Naruto finds himself not only understanding his rival but also sympathizing with him, but that doesn't mean he's gone soft. As Gaara continues to mutate, Naruto prepares for the fight of his life.

Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura pass the written portion of their Journeyman Ninja Selection Exams, but now they must pass the second portion which is held in the aptly named Forest of Death.
