Here are the strong men and bad men of American legend- Paul Bunyan, Old Stormalong, Pecos Bill, Jesse James, etc. Here also are tall tales and tall talk- mosquitos who drill through iron pots to reach a sleeper's head, the original "Shaggy dog" story, etc. A sectio on the forty-eight states introduces the folklore of each. Stories handed down by Indian tribes and tales of European origin are also included.
