Former New York police officer Stone Barrington is hired to search for a man in Key West whose father needs his signature to sell the family business, but when he finally tracks him down, Stone learns the man believes his father poisoned his brother and hired a hit man to kill him and has ulterior motives for wanting to sell, prompting Stone to do some further investigating.

Attorney Stone Barrington teams up with sexy British agent Carpenter once again when it turns out that Barrington's investigation into a philandering husband has connections to Carpenter's quest to track down trained assassin Marie-Therese du Bois.
