Joan of Kent, a high-spirited girl in fourteenth-century England, is sent to the court of King Edward III where she plots to create a scandal with Edward, Prince of Wales, in retaliation for her father's downfall and death, but she finds herself growing to love Edward, and is faced with a terrible dilemma when she learns he returns her feelings.
