Amy Peterson is a von Neumann self-replicating android, part synthetic, part organic. When her android grandmother arrives and tries to kill her and the other androids at her facility, Amy does the only thing she can--eat her grandmother, circuitry and all, which breaks the failsafe in her keeping her from harming human beings.

Amy Peterson, a self-replicating android, has broken her failsafe, meaning she no longer has to follow her programming to protect humans. She and her synthetic partner, Javier, hole up together in a robot paradise which soon comes under attack by humans who only want to use Amy, prompting them to run to Mecha, the robot city, before it is too late.
