In the two years since the death of her father, Eva has read over a hundred romance novels, taking refuge in knowing the stories will end with a romantic consummation, avoiding the romance-not-guaranteed real life that has become so painful. That pain is eased by Will, a senior boy with whom Eva falls in love, but then Will's family moves from New York to California. Eva's best friend, Annie, suggests a road trip, on which the two girls have adventures that usher them into adulthood.
