Gerald is tired and cranky and wants to take a nap, but Piggie is not helping.

When Gerald the Elephant is sad, Piggie is determined to cheer him up, but finds after many tries that it only takes the simplest thing to change Gerald's mood.

Piggie tells Gerald she has a surprise for him, but it is not there yet so Gerald must be patient.

Opposite best friends Gerald, who is careful and worrisome, and Piggie, who is clumsy and carefree, run into a problem when two birds land on Gerald's head.

Best friends Elefante and Cerdita are complete opposites but still manage to have fun together, but when Elefante takes too long to make an important decision, it may be too late to share with Cerdita.

Cerdita is upset because a whale took the ball she found, but Geraldo finds a solution that pleases all of them.

Cerdita realizes that she and Elefante are in a book and that she can make the reader say words, but when Elefante comes to understand the danger of the book ending, Cerdita comes up with a solution to get the reader to keep reading.
