Examines the lives and works of six American women artists, featuring visits with them in their studios, including Faith Ringgold, Jackie Winsor, Flo Oy Wong, Grandma Moses, Jennifer Bartlett, and Elizabeth Catlett.

Visits the studios of African-American artists Benny Andrews, Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Jacob Lawrence, Faith Ringgold, and Alison Saar, features an interview with Lowery Sims, executive director of Harlem's Studio Museum, and includes performances by theatrical troupes De La Guarda and STOMP.

Looks at art movements such as pointillism, fauvism, Dadaism, cubism, abstract impressionism, op and pop art, and photo-realism and surveys the work of representative artists, including Seurat, Matisse, Man Ray, Picasso, Pollack, Escher, and Chuck Close.
