The Cowardly Lion, in search of information about Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West, arrives at the home of the oracle Yackle, who wants some answers of her own before she dies.

Having missed her ride home with the Wizard, Dorothy and her three friends set out for the country of the Quadlings to ask the witch Glinda to help Dorothy return home.

The Wizard gives the scarecrow a brain, the tin man a heart, and the lion his courage, and he decides to escort Dorothy home in a hot air balloon.

After destroying the wicked witch, Dorothy calls on the winged monkeys to transport the group of travelers back to the Emerald City where they confront the Wizard and ask that he fulfill his promise to grant their wishes.

Once Dorothy and her companions reach the witch's country, the witch sends forces to destroy them, including wolves, vicious crows, a bee swarm, and winged monkeys, and Dorothy must find a way to kill the witch and save her friends.

Reaching the Emerald City, Dorothy, the scarecrow, tin man, and lion make their requests of the Wizard of Oz, but before the wishes are granted, he demands that the foursome undertake a quest to kill the wicked witch of the west.

Dorothy and her companions must overcome many obstacles on their way to the Emerald City, including large gulfs in the road, fierce kalidah beasts, a swiftly moving river, and a great meadow of poppies with a magical, sleep-inducing scent.
