When Maria meets the new boy at her high school, Tom Stone, the two feel a connection, but Maria finds it hard to get to know Tom, the son of Persephone Falls, Alaska's new funeral director. After learning that Tom is not Franklin Stone's real son and that the family is into recycling in a new way, Maria finds herself having to fight to keep her new boyfriend.
