Provides a comprehensive home-front history of daily life behind the front lines during the American Civil War and uses the lives of individuals structured around the histories of events and instutitions in the North and South. This book is organized around five broad themes: the northern home front, the southern home front, children, African Americans, and the war's aftermath.
