Provides an account of the Arctic expedition led by Sir John Franklin in 1845 when he and a crew of 129 officers and men set out from Greenland in search of a navigable shortcut to the Atlantic and Pacific, only to become lost without a sign for fourteen years when searchers finally found evidence that the mission had met with disaster.
