Examines the operation of Soviet and Western diplomacy, the behavior of a population under physical and psychological stress, and the part played by public opinion in a cold war crisis, through a study of the Berlin blockade which was initiated in June 1948 when the Soviet Union cut overland communications between the city and West Germany.
