The republic of pirates

Presents the story of the Pirate Republic formed by pirate captains including Blackbeard, Black Sam Bellamy, and Charles Vane. They created a crude democracy with crews largely composed of runaway slaves and indentured servants who craved a measure of freedom. For a brief period the pirates cut off Britain, France, and Spain from their New World empires until a man named Woodes Rogers overcame them.
