The author, now a colonel in the U.S. Army, describes his experiences in 1990 after traveling from his post in Saudi Arabia to Kuwait City for a weekend visit only to find himself in the middle of the Gulf War and a guest at the hotel that quickly became Iraqi military headquarters.
