No excuses

growing up deaf and achieving my Super Bowl dreams

Derrick Coleman, Jr., fullback for the Super Bowl XLVIII (2014) champion Seattle Seahawks, achieved his dream by overcoming incredible odds. Diagnosed as hearing-impaired at the age of three, he faced a potentially limited future. But he never let himself get discouraged. When he was bullied or laughed at, he would simply remove his hearing aids and listen to his mother's advice, "Never let anyone else tell you how far you can go." In high school through lip reading, strong work ethic, and the firm support of his family, a devoted audiologist, and his fellow players, he showed what determination could achieve.
