Young Fu of the upper Yangtze

Young Fu emigrants to the city of Chung King where he is apprenticed to a brass-worker. When he injudiciously buys a cheap alarm clock ( a marvel to him) he is forced to find a way to pay back his debt of $5 before the end of New Year's Day or bring great shame to his mother.
