Federico, who comes from a mixed-race family in Porto Alegre, Brazil, passes for white, while his brother has darker skin. Growing up, Federico receives privileges because of his skin color that his brother does not and he grapples with the inner angst this causes in his life. In 2016, Federico takes a job with a government agency overseeing the race-based quota system at universities, which some exploit through their black ancestry and others are denied access because of their light skin color. Through his experiences, Federico tries to make sense of the role prejudice and race have played in his life and in the world around him.
