exploring bamboo's many uses in daily life : a story told in English and Chinese
Throughout the year, a young boy and his family go out into the bamboo forest to collect bamboo to use in multiple ways. In the spring, they collect the bamboo shoots to eat later in the year and to feed their animals. In the summer, they cut down the stalks to make a chute to deliver fresh water and create fishing poles and rakes. In the autumn, his grandfather uses the bamboo sticks to make baskets, kites, and flutes. In the winter, the family eats pork cooked with dried bamboo shoots, and the boy and his brother receive bamboo pencil holders carved by their grandfather.
