Gon, Killua, and Hisoka join forces in a deadly game of dodge ball, defeating Razor and his Devils, while a group of rival hunters set out to win over the billionaire benefactor who hired Gon to solve the "Greed Island" game.
Gon and his friends are just settling into the strange video game world of "Greed Island" when they finally learn their quest, which is to drive Razor and the 14 Devils out of town by winning a series of deadly sporting events.
A Hunter named Biscuit offers to coach Gon and Killua in the use of their Nen powers, but the clock is ticking and a violent player called "The Bomber" has a plan to get his hands on all but ten of the item cards at once.
After braving a pit of poisonous snakes, Gon, Kurapika, Killua, and Leorio face a "reverse tournament" in which no one wants to be the last man standing and from which Killua could be immediately disqualified if his rage spins out of control.
Gon and Killua split from the group to train at Heavens Arena for six months, but soon find themselves outmatched by another fighter with an ability called Nen, a required skill for Hunters that Gon and Killua vow to learn quickly.
While preparing to become hunters, Gon and his friends realize they are up against some tough competition and must perform culinary skills to pass their second qualification exam.
Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio are challenged by a group of criminals hired by the Hunter Association and must work together to save the day before time runs out.
