Protecting a group of refugees after Freaks burn down Salvation, Deuce and her companions decide to raise a defensive army despite everyone's misgivings about a female war leader, a situation complicated by Fade's struggles with trauma.
Deuce attempts to raise an army and lead the refugees of Salvation to safety, after the town was destroyed by a horde of Freaks, and along the way, she tries to help Fade recover from post-traumatic stress disorder.
