Mia, a new girl at Park Street School, must decide what to do when members of both the Popular Girls Club and Cupcake Club take an interest in her. Since the girls don't believe in mixing in with different groups of friends, Mia realizes she has a dilemma on her hands.

When Katie's best friend Callie leaves her for a clique called the Popular Girls Club on the first day of middle school, Katie decides to find a group that she can join.

Mia is still getting used to having her new stepdad and stepbrother around when she begins to struggle with writing in her Spanish class, and since her family, who speaks Spanish, is willing to help, Mia learns that she is lucky to have three parents.
