Ko and the misfit Portables take on the varsity players, and, if they lose, they will be kicked off the baseball team.

Ko and the Seishu baseball team are up against Ryuou Gakuin and their batter Keitaro Mishima, and there is doubt if Seishu will be able to move to the next round. Then, a soba noodle shop opens up next to Kitamura Sports and the owners have a daughter who strongly resembles Wakaba, Ko's deceased sister.

As Ko enters his second year of high school and Aoba her first, the regionals for Summer Koshien are heating up. In the third round, Seishu faces the favored team, Ryuou Gakuin, which has them wondering if they will advance any further. Meanwhile, Aoba's cousin shows up and shakes things up on a different front.

The new school year sees Ko one step closer at Koshien, but Adane Takigawa's resemblance to Wakaba threatens to steal his heart. Azuma and Aoba grow close, and all around young love blossoms in Ko's third high school year. Plus, the Seishu baseball players have to deal with a new coach.

In order to fulfill his dream of pitching in the Koshien, Ko practices every day but finds his progress hampered by Aoba's hostility and a coach who only cares about winning.
