When brother and sister dragonology students Daniel and Beatrice Cook join Dr. Drake in pursuing evil Alexandra Gorynitchka to the Lost Isle, where she is amassing an army of enslaved dragons to seek an ancient weapon that can kill hundreds of dragons at a single stroke, they learn of a Dragon Prophecy which may place a heavy burden on the siblings.

In the first of a series of chronicles told by Dr. Drake's young students, Daniel Cook and his sister Beatrice spend the summer with their parents' eccentric former tutor. Soon they are caught up in the race to find the stolen Dra.

Daniel and Beatrice Cook, along with an adolescent dragon named Erasmus, embark on a journey to rescue their dragon chick, Torcher, from a secret society of dragon-killers known as the Dragonsbane Knights, and their search uncovers a traitor within the Secret and Ancient Society of Dragonologists.

Brother and sister Daniel and Beatrice must prevent the evil dragonolgist Alexandra Gorynitchka from obtaining the fearsome Hammer of the Dragons, and thus controlling (or destroying) all the dragons of the world.
