Temeraire

Lawrence is shipwrecked in Japan...alone! Old enmities and suspicion are a waiting powder keg. Temeraire will unwittingly ignite the gunpowder to blow up the keg by providing new enemies for Britain when it desperately needs friends. Napoleon has turned on Moscow and is about to invade with an army of unimaginable size. If Russia falls, Britain could easily follow.

For Capt. Will Laurence and his fighting dragon Temeraire, put out to pasture in Australia, it seems their part in the war has come to an end just when they are needed most. Newly allied with the powerful African empire of the Tswana, the French have occupied Spain and brought revolution and bloodshed to Brazil, threatening Britain's last desperate hope to defeat Napoleon. So the British government dispatches Arthur Hammond from China to enlist Laurence and Temeraire to negotiate a peace with the angry Tswana, who have besieged the Portuguese royal family in Rio--and as bait, Hammond offers to reinstate Laurence to his former rank and seniority as a captain in the Aerial Corps. Laurence and Temeraire--joined by the egotistical fire-breather Iskierka and the still-growing Kulingile, who has already surpassed Temeraire in size--embark for Brazil, only to meet with a string of unmitigated disasters that leave the dragons and their human friends forced to make an unexpected landing in the hostile territory of the Inca empire, where they face new unanticipated dangers.

Captain Will Laurence and his dragon, Temeraire, are waylaid by a mysterious envoy bearing urgent orders for Britain that send them to the Ottoman Empire, where they must escort three valuable dragon eggs back to England.

The dragon Temeraire, after learning his captain Laurence has been sentenced to death for treason, leads other uncaptained dragons of Britain's Aerial Corp into battle during the Napoleonic War and eventually reunites with his commander and demands freedom, pay, and a voice in the war counsel for dragons.

Despite their heroic defense of England, Captain Will Laurence and his dragon, Temeraire, are convicted of treason and transported to a prison colony in distant Australia. Several adventures later the theft of a precious dragon's egg turns their trip into a desperate recovery opperation and presents a dangerous new complication in the global war between Britain and Napoleon.

Temeraire the dragon and his captain, Will Laurence, fly to Africa to search for a cure to the epidemic plaguing England's dragon ranks and hold off conquest by Napoleon Bonaparte.
