Reuben and his Amish family make a beautiful Log Cabin quilt to raise money for a sick neighbor, but then it is stolen before they can take it to auction.

Reuben, an Amish boy with five sisters, witnesses the burning of a neighbor's barn and experiences the excitement of the barnraising that follows.

During a blizzard, Reuben and his Amish family worry about what to do with their milk, wonder about names for Reuben's new puppies, help out a neighbor and his pregnant wife, and have fun sledding near their farm.

Reuben loves watching hot air balloons as they fly over his Amish family's farm, and one day he is offered the opportunity to take a ride in one.
