While taking a field trip with the rest of his first grade class, Carlos decides to hide on the fire truck when it is called out for an emergency, but instead of getting in trouble, Carlos is able to help the firefighters save a cat stuck in a tree.
The students at Appleville Elementary are gearing up to celebrate the one hundredth day of school, but the kids in Miss Popper's class cannot agree on the one hundred items they want to add to the display in the all-purpose room.
Carlos would rather stay in kindergarten and states he will only go to first grade one day; but when Miss Popper reveals that someone new will be arriving on the second day of school, Carlos decides to return.
