After Gauche Suede is rescued and returned to the Beehive, two government operatives show up and take the injured and unconscious hero away, leaving the Beehive staff wondering what the Amberground government is hiding from them.

Lag arrives in the town of Lament on a mission to save his hero, Gauche Suede. If he can get close enough, he will fire his Letter Bullet to restore Gauche's memories, but he has no way of knowing what awaits him inside the convent where his hero and the rebels of Reverse are hiding.

Lag discovers that his long-lost hero Gauche Suede has become involved in an anti-government organization called Reverse and is now known as Marauder Noir, and while following Noir's trail to the icy northern town Blue Notes Blues, Lag and Niche make an important discovery.

Lag, a Letter Bee who risks his life to deliver messages between the cities of the dark world of Amberground, struggles to compose a perfect letter that will convey his heart to his friend and long-lost hero Gauche Suede, hoping to help Gauche, who now goes by the name Noir the Marauder, recover his memories of his former self.
