Tom Swift, young inventor

An antiscience terrorist group called The Road Back has threatened to disable the Robot Olympics sponsored by the White House's Office of Science and Technology, and Tom hopes that the tight security will keep the group away.

Young inventor Tom Swift and his sister Sandy are invited to the opening of Apogee, the world's first space hotel, and are having a great time experiencing weightlessness, meeting the robotic staff, and playing zero-gravity badminton--until a billionaire guest goes missing.

When he arrives at a competition to race his new rocket-powered plane, Tom learns that some of the contestants have crashed during their test runs and decides to investigates the cause of the problem.

Tom, Bud, and Yo join Tom's dad on the S.S. "Nestor" to see Mr. Swift test his submersible, which he plans to use to search the sea floor for earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other phenomena, but when a storm hits, Tom risks his life to save his father.
