Stranded on the moon after his extraordinary airplane takes him into outer space, a boy meets a marooned young Martian with a broken spacecraft, and the two new friends work together to return to their respective homes.

The small and mischievous creatures known as the Hueys all look and behave in the exact same way, and when one decides it wants to be different and knits a sweater, the others decide they want to be different and knit sweaters that look exactly the same.

While trying his best to help a penguin that has shown up at his door, a boy journeys all the way to the South Pole, only to realize that the penguin was never lost.
