a diary of the Warsaw Ghetto
On November 16, 1940, the Nazis sealed off a large section of central Warsaw and created the Jewish Ghetto for Polish Jews. Over 400,000 people were sealed off from the outside world and forced to live under terrible conditions which included a severe shortage of food. Among them was a 47-year-old Jewish teacher who kept a record of events. Part of Abraham Lewin's diary, covering the period from April 1942 to January 1943, was found hidden in a milk churn after the war and published. This book is that partial diary.
