Each Literary Masters volume introduces a significant author and covers basic biographical information. Maxine Hong Kingston, a Chinese-American who has lived in California and Hawaii, published her first book in 1976, using her culture and family history as background. She has a daily habit of writing down her thoughts and ideas and does not depend on research to generate materials for her writing except for confirmation of details relating to the historical periods she uses. She is know for her representation of feelings, emotions and relations among her characters.
