Hanamichi finally has a chance to prove himself on the basketball court when he is allowed to play in the place of Akagi, who is injured, but his efforts might not be enough to make him the next team captain.

After making the basketball team to impress his dream girl, Sakuragi Hanamachi finds himself stuck practicing the basics in the corner of the gym rather than playing with the team. Sick of it all, Sakuragi decides to leave the team--after just one week.

Hanamichi Sakuragi never has any luck asking out the girls at school until Haruko becomes interested in him, but he must join the basketball team in order to impress her.
