Because their parents are archaeologists, Gabriella and Evangelia Betarrini have spent every summer among the hills of Italy. Now that they are teenagers the girls have become bored with dusty archaeological summers...until Gabi places her hand on top of a handprint in an ancient tomb. Suddenly she is physicaly in fourteenth century Italy and in the middle of a fierce battle between knights of two opposing forces.

Gabriella and Evangelia Betarrini are two normal American teenagers who time-travel to fourteenth century Italy where they've lived in castles, been in historic battles, and fallen in love with handsome knights. They've now returned with their mother to the present to save their father before his tragic death.

When Gabi and Lia return to medieval Italy, this time with their mother, they find a heroes' welcome from the people of Siena and enemies that wish them dead.
